Fundamental Modeling Concepts (FMC)
FMC is a set of Fundamental Modeling Concepts for IT modeling. It consists of a data perspective, a behavioral perspective and an architectural perspective. It was developed by Siegfried Wendt the first director of the HPI. The Block Diagrams represent the architectural perspective. It is the most adapted model concept from FMC since there is nothing comparable to it.
Oryx allows you to model FMC Block Diagrams. The stencil set was realized as a side project by Falko Menge an affiliated Free Software developer and fan of FMC. He found it "surprisingly easy" to define all the connection and containment rules which ensure syntactically correct models. It demonstrates nicely that Oryx is well suited for all types if modeling languages.
What is Oryx?
Oryx is a powerful modeling platform running directly in your web browser. To start modeling you need zero installation – your model is just one click away. Besides FMC, Oryx supports various modeling languages, like BPMN, EPC, Petri nets – and it is easily extensible.
